RED5 - Installation and Set up on Windows: Setting up RED5 server is not as seamless as FMS server. The purpose of this tutorial is to help others to overcome the problems that are generally faced while installing RED5. So here I present an easy tutorial explaining how to setup RED5 server.
Download latest RED5 installer from http://code.google.com/p/red5/. Under Installers, choose your Installer according to your Operating System. This tutorial demonstrates for Red5 0.9.1 Final (21 February 2010) for Windows. Size approx 32Mb.

Install JDK: If you don't have Java installed, you can download the latest version fromhttp://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Set Windows environment variables: We need to set JAVA_HOME environment variable so that other applications and RED5 can find where java is installed. To set Windows XP Environment Variables right click "My Computer" icon go to "Computer" properties, then to "Advanced tab". For setting up Windows 7 Environment Variables right click "My Computer" icon go to "Properties" and then click Advanced system Settings, then to the "Advanced tab". Click the Environment Variables. And now under "System variables", click on the "New" button and enter "Variable Name" as JAVA_HOME. for "Variable Value" put in the exact OS specific path where Java JDK is installed. Let's say, we installed in C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_14
Installation of RED5: Run the downloaded set-up file (setup-Red5-0.9.1.exe). For an instance, we installed in default directory C:\Program Files\Red5. When prompted for IP Address Enter = 127.0.0.1 and Proceed. After that when it prompts for port then enter 5080. Finish Installation.
Run RED5 service: Open "Control Panel" then Administrative tools and Services. In the services list search for RED5. Select it and press the "Start the service" link or right click and press Start. Note: Start option appears if RED5 server is not running else we get Restart and Stop options only. Also run RED5 from
Start --> Programs -->RED5 --> Start RED5.
Test RED5 installation: To test whether RED5 is installed properly open the browser and open URLhttp://localhost:5080/. RED5 page should appear which means the RED5 server has been installed successfully. Open the link http://localhost:5080/installer/. The page connects to RED5 server automatically and display a list of sample applications that can be installed. Say, we install the SOSample by clicking the Install button on this page and then open the demo from C:/Program Files/Red5/webapps/root/demos/BallControl.html in two different browser windows. Press the connect icon on both the pages. Yellow light turns to green on successful connection. Now move one RED5 logo and you see the logo in other page moving automatically.
